Jean's Bible Study

Purpose and scope --  I arranged the chapters and their subsequent topics to maximize the main points of Scripture. Consequently, the purpose of this instrument is to provide a user-friendly format that makes the subjects of the Bible more accessible to readers through a simple yet highly effective design that automatically unscrambles complex topics and places them in their proper context in layman's terms. The scope or extent of treatment is best understood by comparing it to Naves Topical Bible, which is the most comprehensive work ever done on the Bible pertaining to topical studies. While Jean's Topical Bible Study examines only the New Testament, it actually does so more thoroughly than Nave's. For instance, while Naves spends much of its resources examining names and places, topics that any word concordance would cover, Jean's Topical Bible Study concentrates on concepts that would NOT be easy to access with a word concordance, while still maintaining a staggering number of relevant topics that Nave's also claims. For this reason Jean's Topical Concordance contains many important topics that Nave's does not cover.

General Summary -- Jean's Topical Bible Study Software is a well-organized contextual study about the topics of the New Testament. It runs on any web browser (such as Internet Explorer, FireFox and Google Chrome just to name a few. The chapters' design consists of topics strategically embedded into other topics to show interrelationships between them, rather than the disadvantage of listing subjects independently of each other (in alphabetical order). Each topic plays a vital role in the chapter by its own contribution as the chapter itself provides context for the topics. It also has an index that allows you to trace a portion of Scripture back through the main text, acting in reverse to the glossary. If you know a verse that applies to a certain subject, but can't think of the topic itself or want to know more about that verse, you can use the index to easily find topics that pertain to it and also read commentary. The real power of the index is when looking up these topics in the main text, you will find a handful of other verses that directly relate to your course of study, making it a useful tool for generating Scripture with a common theme, which can in turn be analyzed by the index. This is the power of a cross reference instrument.

The audience -- I wrote Jean's Topical Bible Study for my personal use starting in 1990, because I wanted a custom designed resource tool for topical studies. However, as I worked on it, I realized it was evolving into something greater than my own needs and realized that others would find it useful too. Consequently, this program is an ideal tool for pastors in preparing sermons, lay teachers for preparing lessons such in a Sunday School or a Bible study setting, or anyone just wanting to know more about the Bible. It also has many other secondary uses and scholarly applications. A new thirst for personal study is beginning to emerge, bringing with it a heightened interest for Christian literature, particularly of reference works. In addition there are more ministers taking the home-church pulpit today than ever before as a result of a trend that is sweeping the nation. These are Christian groups that meet in homes in numbers usually up to fifteen per household, normally sanctioned by a church as an extension of its ministry, but not always. This program would be ideal for leaders of such meetings.

I hope and pray that you will examine Jean's Bible Study and see its potential to enhance you personal studies in God's wonderful word.
